Meet Anthony Zator

Anthony ZatorA native of the Chicago area, trumpeter Anthony Zator began his musical journey at the age of 3 and soon after started working with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His high school accomplishments led him to continue studying trumpet at DePaul University. Upon completion of his Bachelor of Music, Anthony turned his attention to the manufacturing side of the industry, handcrafting trumpets with Shilke Music Products, Inc. for five years before moving to the Denver area in 2007 to pursue performance and education opportunities and enjoy the majesty Colorado has to offer.

Zator joined the Arapahoe Philharmonic in 2010, was named principal trumpet in 2013 and has served on the board of directors since 2016. In addition to the AP, he performs with the Aurora Symphony; dance bands Tunisia, Soul School and Thumpin’; international touring gospel bands House of Soul and At the Table with Dr. Martin Luther King; and Latin ensembles Mood Express and Conjunto Colores, among others. Anthony is also an active band leader of the Otone Brass Band, a NOLA funk ensemble, and AZQ, a modern jazz quartet that debuted his original music in 2010. Within these ensembles, he has had the unique experience of working with jazz legends such as Tom Harrell, Joe Lovano, Javon Jackson and Rudy Royston. In addition to regularly performing, Anthony teaches group trumpet at the middle and high school level, directs a jazz combo and teaches private lessons at Denver School of the Arts, an affiliation he has had since 2009. To seek balance, Anthony practices martial arts, specifically Kempo, a passion he believes directly affects musical intuition.
