The Civic Youth Orchestra is a new orchestral ensemble for student musicians age 13–21. Managed by Avanti Music Academy in Highlands Ranch, the orchestra will offer several performances throughout the year, working closely with coaches from the Arapahoe Philharmonic. Repertoire will include movements from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Schubert’s “Great” Symphony No. 9, and Haydn’s “Miracle” Symphony No. 96, all taken from the Arapahoe Philharmonic’s 2016–2017 concert season programming. The CYO is directed by AP Music Director Devin Patrick Hughes and AP Apprentice Conductors Scott Bird and Brian LaGuardia.
Rehearsals are held at Avanti Music Academy (2030 E. County Line Road, #U, Highlands Ranch) on Sunday evenings. Learn more about the CYO at http://avantimusic.org/civic-youth-orchestra-south/.
Hear the CYO! We’ll be playing at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 27, at Boettcher Concert Hall at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The orchestra will play for 20–30 minutes. No tickets are required.
“She had an awesome time. Holy moly, she is excited. She enjoyed that so much. She wants to be in your group when she gets older. She loved the sound quality, the discipline, the other musicians, and Devin’s conducting. Yes, she said the music was hard. But she can’t wait to have the opportunity to do that again. Can you give a special thank you to the bassoon player that helped her? And a thank you to all that made that happen for the CYO students. I have one very happy child.”
